Vagina Dryness

Vagina dryness is a common problem that occurs when we enter peri-menopause phase (early forties) and then transition to menopause.

Symptoms of dryness in the vagina are :-

  • vaginal burning
  • sore and itchy around the vulva
  • pain and discomfort during sex
  • light bleeding after intercourse
  • lack of interest in sex
  • having to pee more often than usual
  • recurring urinary tract infection (UTI)

Vaginal dryness and its symptoms are caused by decrease in estrogen level.

Estrogen is the hormone that triggers vaginal lubrication to nourish the mucous membranes in the vagina. It keeps the vagina lining moist, thick and healthy.

Most women might not even be aware that the drop in estrogen levels starts very much earlier before menopause. For some it may start as early as in the late thirties or early forties.

Other than menopause, the following are causes for decline in estrogen levels as well.

  1. Stress
  2. Lack of foreplay or arousal
  3. Depression
  4. Oral contraceptive
  5. Breast feeding**
  6. Therapeutic drugs***
  7. Cancer Therapies***
  8. Surgical removal of ovaries
  9. Radiation therapy to the ovaries

**Breast Feeding - When a woman is breast-feeding, the pituitary glands produces the hormone prolactin which stimulates the production of breast milk. Prolactin suppresses the production of estrogen. And is one of the reasons why full-time breast feeding acts as a natural contraceptive.

***Therapeutic Drugs & Cancer Therapies - One of the side-effect of therapeutic drugs and cancer therapies is that it causes the ovaries to shut down and  stop producing estrogen.

Loss of estrogen not only causes vagina dryness but it also affects the muscle tone of the vagina. A dry and less elastic vagina really dampens a woman’s sexual pleasures. It causes painful intercourse which, of course, may lead to avoidance. Why engage in something that gives you pain and discomfort, right?

Well, the good news is that vagina dryness should not be accepted as a consequence of declining estrogen level. It is not the end of the road for your sex life. With the help of painful intercourse solutions, love making can still be enjoyable and satisfying.

The manjakani pill is a herbal supplement which you take orally 3 times a day. Each time swallow 2 pills with a cup of warm water.

After supplementing with the manjakani pill for 1 - 2 months, the vagina lining becomes thicker. Tears along the vagina wall will heal. The Bartholon glands that line the vagina wall will gradually begin to release moisture. Hence more lubrication in the vagina.

While waiting for the manjakani pill to heal vagina dryness for the long term, you can use the vaginal gel for instant vagina moisturization.

Apply 2 to 3 drops of the vagina gel on your index finger and swipe it inside the vagina. After15-30 minutes your vagina will be wet enough for pleasurable sex.

The gel is non sticky with an alluring scent. It is water-base, so it will not disturb the effectiveness of condoms. Just swipe it inside the vagina before foreplay. You will be well lubricated and tight within ten to thirty minutes!

Besides treating vagina dryness, this manjakani pill and gel set help to:-

Refrain from oil base lubricants such as petroleum jelly, cocoa butter, butter and baby oil. The oils in these products weaken the latex found in condoms and may cause breakage. Moreover, they disrupt the vaginal flora which lead to vaginal yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis.

Lubrication is not an interruption prior to making love. With a positive mind-set and the right attitude, the application of vaginal gel can be a very erotic and sensual experience.

As mentioned in my vaginal atrophy page, the best way to achieve a healthy, juicy and dilated vagina is to have frequent vaginal intercourse.

If you are not sexually active, you can keep your vagina well lubricated through self-pleasuring either with vaginal massage or  a vaginal massager. For us, older women, keep in mind that the clitoris is still very sensitive to stimulation.

Like any muscle, the vagina is best kept healthy through regular stimulation. This is one area where the adage, “use it or lose it” holds true!

Vagina dryness especially after menopause should not be suffered in silence . You can rectify it with supplements, water-base gel and self massage.

With all these solutions mentioned here, you are empowered to have pleasurable sex again.
